Students starting after the beginning of the year, follow the steps below to get set up for success in my class.
Getting Situated
First and foremost, WELCOME! Welcome to my class! I want to do everything I can to make your transition into my class a smooth one. To get caught up as soon as possible, you will need to COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING WITHIN ONE WEEK OF JOINING MY CLASS. If you need to come in before or after school to complete these, let me know. Touch base with me each day before class starts to update me on your progress with these tasks.

- Approach me as soon as possible because I will want to match you up with a "student guide" in my class who can help you transition. It's important that you do this first.
- Before we get started, make sure you know how to log into our GAFE (Google Account for Education). See more information about GAFE here. If you do not know your log in info, see Mrs. Cable, our school librarian, for your access information. You will need to get this done right away! If you do not know how to log into a Chromebook, your student guide can help you.
- Join your period's Google Classroom. See this page for the access codes and instructions. Once in the Google Classroom, go to the "About" page, click on the "Toolbox" link, and choose the blue box in the top-right hand corner that says "Add to My Drive". This will automatically place all of this class's resources straight into your Google Drive for easy access throughout the year.
- Now join the following online sites we use: Schoology, Turnitin.com, Edpuzzle, and Remind. Instructions and access codes for all of these can be found on my Technology page. Note that some of these also have apps for your phone.
- Read the AP Syllabus or the 1P Syllabus for my class. Reading this information is considered to be like a contract between students and myself, so read it and know it.. Once you've read everything AND shared vital pieces of information with your parents, sign this handout with your parents.
- A second survey you need to complete is my Technology Survey. <<INSERT NEEDED>> If you were previously enrolled in another English 1P or AP Lang teacher's class here at PHS, then you do NOT need to do this, as I already have access to your results. All new English 1P and AP Lang students need to complete it.
- To get an idea of what we've been up to lately, look in Google Classroom.
- Although I highly doubt that you will ever need the school-issued textbook, you will be issued one by the Bookstore. My class utilizes on-line texts instead. I suggest you leave it at home in a safe location; you will be responsible for returning it in good condition at the end of the school year. If you should need it for class, I will notify you ahead of time; this way it doesn't take up space in your locker.
